Why Is Google Moving to Mobile-Only Indexing?

GUESTS & RESOURCES

Episode Overview:

Join host Ben as he kicks off Mobile Indexing Week with Jordan Koene, SEO Strategist and Advisor to Searchmetrics. Together they discuss why Google is moving to mobile-only indexing.

Last September Google announced that they were switching over to mobile-first indexing with a March rollout date. They kick off the conversation by going down memory lane about the history of Google’s crawl and how it has evolved. Google first announced mobile-indexing in 2016 and its focus on crawling mobile over desktop.

Google focused on mobile because they predicted this shift by users. Mobile is more convenient for users on the go, with access to whatever they need at their fingertips. Industries that have had a heavier focus on desktops like banking and real estate have seen this shift. Users want to search easy and Google is giving it to them.
