Today, South Korean climber Chaehyun Seo spotted L’atagonista 5.14b (8c), a monster pitch of 60 meters in Monstant, Spain. With this mandate, Seo is the second woman ever to see the degree. Last year, Janja Garnbret saw the 50-meter Fish Eye 5.14b in Oliana.
Seo said she struggled hard for nearly an hour on the climb. Earlier in the day, he saw another impressive route, Hidrofóbia 5.13d. His historic vision of L’atagonista comes just three days after redpointing La Rambla 5.15a in Oliana, Spain.
At just 19, Seo already has quite the climbing resume. He is one of the best climbers on the World Cup circuit, bringing home four World Cup gold medals in a row. He also won the World Championships in 2021 and competed on the South Korean Olympic Team at the Tokyo Summer Games.
At just 11 years old, he saw 5.13b. At 12, she sent Omaha Beach 5.14a in Red River Gorge, and at 15, she sent Bad Girls Club 5.14+ in Rifle. He has amassed an impressive string of climbs in Spain this month including Migranya Profunda 5.14a, La Pequena Mowgli 5.14b, and La Rambla 5.15a.
