It is with great pleasure that Jennie Coughlin, Audience Team Editor Extraordinaire, has joined Metro as the section’s first full-time Audience Editor.
In this new role, Jennie will work closely with story editors and reporters to make sure we have a strong and smart audience strategy. She will deliver regular audience reports, connecting our desktop with frequent insights that will help us better understand our readers. Jennie will develop audience plans for big stories, events, and ongoing features. You’ll also work with us to increase the readership of the New York Today newsletter and plan ahead for important events like state and local elections.
Jennie has only been on the job a month, but she has already started to make an impact at the desk, broadening our field of vision in the mornings with metro-specific audience scans and generally just being a knowledgeable voice in our daily meetings, suggesting strategic moves. like evergreen articles and post times for maximum SEO
Jennie will be completely dedicated to Metro in this new role, but will still meet regularly with her colleagues at Audience to keep us connected with the latest tools and techniques from the Audience team.
As a member of the S.E.O. team for the past few years, Jennie had a considerable impact. Jennie directed S.E.O. trainings across the newsroom, sharpening our collective understanding of how the major search engines work and bring our news to light. Developed the S.E.O. strategy for major Metro court trials, but it was also a key factor in the success of our pursuit of all the major stories in recent years. And Jennie was the morning mover of the audience crew, forging connections with the night crews and London and kickstarting the day for the entire audience apparatus.
The audience team will miss Jennie on a daily basis, but hope to have an even stronger bridge to the Metro counter.
We are very excited to have someone as experienced and collaborative as Jennie on the desk. Please join us in welcoming him to the team.
