A couple of weeks after I told you that I thought Google was going to stop publishing SEO case studies, Google just published a new one. Here’s how Vimeo improved video SEO for their clients, specifically by combining the indexifembedded rule with noindex and adding structured data.
As a reminder, Mariachiara Marsella recently asked John Mueller if Google could add new case studies. John Mueller replied to Mastodon: “I find it quite a challenge to do these as the search is very dynamic.”
So I thought that was it, put in a fork, no more Google SEO case studies. But I suspect that as soon as I wrote that piece, Gary was gone, I’ll show Barry and write a new one. Ok, I doubt that happened…
Regardless, the new case study says, “Vimeo accepted Google’s new guideline for video players using iframe embeddings. The new indexifembedded rule paired with noindex allows markup through embedding. Since applying this and VideoObject markup, Vimeo they’re videos. They have the right to index what’s embedded on clients’ pages, without clients having to add markup themselves.”
They also used key moments; case study reads: “To make all Vimeo chapters appear as key moments in Google Search, Vimeo added Clip branding to all video host pages. Vimeo also implemented Seek branding, so a video If Vimeo doesn’t have a chapter, Google can automatically identify key moments.”
Anyway, check out the case study if you do any video SEO, it’s interesting.
It’s very interesting that there have been almost no new case studies in 18 months and now we’ve got a new one…
